If you were chatting with someone you'd like to get to know better and they had said that they thought you were handsome (and their friends agreed), would you think it stupid to ask them out? Or would you just lay low and maybe hang out with the person before requesting an official 'date'?
You must make the assumption that he was being honest and not just stroking your ego.

I'm all for asking them out on a date (unless you think they might be psycho or something). The previous post was right, don't be a chicken shit about it. If they say no, then you know it wasn't meant to be.

I would say if you want to play it safe and not feel like a fool hang out with them one more time, who knows you might not like something about them. Right? Then that way you can avoid anything about going out with them once and never 'contacting' them again and you won't feel guilty when you run into them again in the future and they ask 'so what happened'. :-D Trust me! -Jason
i think that if somebody said something like you were handsome, you should definitely ask them out. coming from their side, they might have already worked up a lot of courage to say something like that. besides, it doesn't hurt to ask, "would you like to have some coffee later?"
